Transport and Parking

It is easy to get to Herdla by bus or car. Once you arrive on the island, Herdla fort is a great starting point whether you want to go for a walk or visit the museum. We are located in a new, modern building with beautiful views over Herdlevalen.

By Bus

You can take a bus from Bergen Bus Station to Ravnanger Terminal (route 400 or 410), and from there change to route 414 to Herdla. We recommend checking the timetable at SKYSS.

With the Bergen Card, you can travel free by bus.

You can get off either at the final stop or at the stop called “Herdla museum”. From there, it takes about 12–15 minutes to walk up to the museum.

By car

Herdla is located at the northern tip of Askøy. From Bergen city centre, follow Rv 555 towards Askøy/Sotra to Storavatnet. There, take Rv 562 and follow it across the Askøy Bridge and continue all the way to Herdla. After crossing the Herdla Bridge, continue for about 500 metres, then turn left towards Herdla Fort.

There is public parking and toilet facilities at the fort. From the parking area, you can see the large light-coloured building where the museum is located. Driving time from Bergen city centre is approximately 45 minutes.
