Herdla – Home and Meeting Point

A lot has happened on Herdla throughout the centuries. Did you know that the legendary Viking Egil Skallagrimsson raided here in the 10th century, or that there has been a church here since the 12th century? You may know that there was a German airbase here during the war—but did you know that Bergen Airport was once planned to be built on Herdla?

In the exhibition, we have aimed to present both major historical events and everyday life. In the display case at the centre of the room, we showcase some of our most fascinating objects, with the christening gown from Herdla farm given pride of place.
