A visit to the museum is a great starting point for exploring Herdla. From here, you can set out to discover a small island with a remarkable variety of experiences—on your own or through one of our guided tours, which offer deeper insight into the island’s natural and historical heritage.
After your visit, you will better understand why Herdla has such beautiful beaches, such rich birdlife, and such a dramatic history.
Guided tours of the torpedo battery are available and can be booked with your ticket. It is also possible to arrange private tours. Private tours cost NOK 200 per person, with a minimum price of NOK 2,500, and must always be booked ahead of time.

Herdla - from naked rocks to manor and parish
On a guided tour, you will learn how melting inland ice shaped the moraine island of Herdla and made early settlement possible. You will also discover the story of the Herdla manor and the island’s long history.
Birdlife
With binoculars, you can observe the rich birdlife on Herdla and spot many of the species typical of the island. You will also receive information about the protected bird reserves and how to visit them responsibly.
Fightercraft airport and coastal fort
From Herdla Fort and the Gul-16 site, you can follow traces of the Second World War and gain insight into the island’s strategic importance.
